Follow these steps to make seamless mobile deposits.

  1. Prepare your check.
    • Flatten folded or crumpled checks before taking photos.
    • Make sure the numbers on the bottom of your check (MICR line) are readable.
    • Write "For Mobile Deposit" in the signature area on the back of the check. (Checking the box alone is not sufficient).
  2. Take the photo.
    • Take photos in a well-lit area.
    • Place the check on a solid dark background.
    • Keep the check within the camera's view finder.
    • Keep your phone flat and steady above the check.
    • Hold the camera square to the check.
    • Capture all corners but avoid areas around the check.
    • Try not to get shadows across the check.
    • Keep the entire check image visible and in focus.
  3. Enter data.
    • Sign/endorse the check back and label based on the prompt.
    • Follow the prompts and enter the amount on your check. 

Reminders 

To ensure smooth and timely processing of your deposit, we'll process the following validations as your check is captured. Any failures to pass the validation process may delay or prevent your deposit from being completed. 

Image quality assessment

  • Routing number
  • Foreign item, image replacement documents (IRD)
  • MICR misreads (digit errors)
  • Duplicate detection within the mobile channel for your financial institution (based on 180 days of MICR data and 45 days of image data)
  • Declared amount doesn’t match
  • Missing endorsement
  • Amount exceeds deposit limit (based on user or institution)
  • Amount exceeds daily deposit limit (based on user or institution)

The following checks should be accepted via mobile deposit if formatted properly and the check image is readable.

  • U.S. Treasury Checks
  • U.S. Personal Checks
  • U.S. Business Checks

The following checks may be accepted but are not officially supported item types for mobile deposit due to their non-standard format.

  • New U.S. Savings Bonds (RTN 000090007)
  • U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Money Orders
  • Money Orders from any other provider
  • Rebate checks

The following checks are expected to fail via mobile deposit.

  • Older U.S. Savings Bonds
  • Image Replacement Documents (IRDs)
  • Foreign checks
  • Checks with invalid RTNs (9th/check digit)
  • Checks with missing account data
  • Checks with missing RTNs
  • Checks with missing or incorrect special symbols
